The authors (Robin L Carhart-Harris, Helen S Mayberg, Andrea L Malizia, and David Nutt) present arguments in support of a correspondence between findings of modern neuroscience and clinical neuropsychiatry on the one hand, and some of the basic tenets of Freudian metapsychology, with an emphasis on the constructs of the ego and the mechanism of repression.
