The Ottawa Psychoanalytic Society (OPS) is affiliated with the Quebec English Institute in Montreal. In this regard, the OPS does not operate its own training program, but it supports Ottawa-based psychoanalytic candidates accepted into the Quebec English Institute. The support is in the form of offering Ottawa-based candidates their training psychoanalysis and/or supervision. There is a small number of OPS analysts offering these services. Educational aspects of the training, such as weekly seminars, are offered virtually through the QE, and they are a four-year training. Candidate cohorts are usually accepted every two years.
Weekly virtual seminars are usually 2-3 hours long, and they are led by members of the QE Training Committee, as well as members from Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, and Vermont. The training focuses on instilling a strong basis in Freud during the first year with concomitant emphases on psychopathology and personality theory. Major schools of psychoanalysis are studied in depth with increasing priority given to clinical material and continuing case study.
